How Did We[b] Came To This?

You know that this is a fairly important post given the sparse postings I’ve been doing lately. Joel Spolsky’s Martian Headset post gives some insight (as always) on the troublesome world of web developing, how this standards mess all came to be, and how it all looks gloomy from this side of the room with no seemingly bright light and singing choirs at the end of the tunnel. Not only is IE8 deliberating on this issue, but developers must be aware of this on the platform-level as well. With portable computing on the horizon as the iPhone and blackberries gaining traction, these devices are about to enter the ring with no protective gear on. It’d be interesting to see how this is all accommodated without diverging to many more different interpretations.

One thing to note is that Spolsky isn’t really pro-Microsoft but pro-common sense, so keep an open mind while reading it. You’ve been forewarned.
